Our History

T he business opened as Bentley-Delaney Funeral Home in October of 1985 with William Bentley and David Delaney as co-owners. Bill was a licensed funeral director and was active in the Marceline Masonic Lodge, Tri County Shrine, and Lions Club. His wife Louise assisted during funerals and visitations.

David is a licensed funeral director and embalmer, graduating from Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was employed at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home at Edina and Kirksville, Miller Tillotson Funeral Home in Marceline, Hutton McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, and Campbell Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall before opening Delaney Funeral Home in 1985.

After Bill's death in 1997 his son and daughter-in-law Kelly and Konda Bentley joined the business. Kelly was a licensed funeral director and Konda received her license later.

In June of 2000 the Bentley's sold their interest in the business to David and his wife Kristi. Kristi is the office manager, and assists in visitations and funerals. Their youngest son Jason is a 2007 graduate of Kansas City Kansas Community College of Mortuary Science and is a licensed embalmer and funeral director at the funeral home. He is married to Lesley and they have two children, Deakan and Kenna. Their two other children, Eric Delaney and Kiley (Burgener) Herriman, helped out during their years at home and college and now live in Flint, Texas and Marceline, Missouri respectively. Eric is married to Crystal and has two children, Karyn and Jillian, and Kiley is married to Jon Herriman.

In June of 2006 we opened a new facility in the neighboring town of Bucklin. It is a small town with a big heart and they have welcomed us with open arms.

We have been blessed by the support you have given us and it is a great honor to serve you.
